Sellersville Borough News

The Borough’s 5-year solid waste and recyclable contract with Republic Services is slated to expire at the end of 2025. In preparation, the Borough put a new 5-year contract out for bid earlier this year and awarded the contract to the lowest bidder, Republic Services, in June for $3,132,376.19. Though our trash service provider will be staying the same, the terms of service will be changing. The new contract is for automated collection once a week, bulk collection once a week, and recyclable collection once a week with contractor owned, wheeled carts. Everyone will be assigned one day a week to put out all your trash, recycling, and bulk items at once. Each household/unit will be provided with one 96-gallon trash container and one 96-gallon recyclable container at no cost to you. Smaller gallon containers can be requested if 96 is too much or unmanageable for your needs. Republic has dropped off sample trash totes in each size (96, 64, and 35 gallons) to the Borough office for your convenience. Through the fall, they will be at Borough Hall for you to stop by and decide which size works best for you and your needs. On the flip side, if 96 gallons is not enough for your family, a second trash tote may be ordered and bought through Republic Services. When Republic is ready to start taking requests for different sizes or additional trash totes, they will notify the Borough and provide a link for you to visit online. There will also be flyers available at Borough Hall that contain all the information needed to request different size cans. If you do not request a smaller cart size, Republic will automatically provide you with the 96-gallon size. We understand that once-a-week pickup is different than our community has been used to, but we are very thankful to Republic Services for sticking with us and for offering a more affordable price. With this in mind, we are happy to announce that the quarterly rate for trash will not have to be increased for 2026. More details from both the Borough and Republic Services will be mailed out closer to the end of the year and posted to our website and Facebook. Any additional questions or concerns can be emailed to sellersville@sellersvilleboro.org, or call 215-257-5075. We also want to remind you that Sellersville Borough Ordinance Chapter 127-7 Residential Collection, Section H states: “Refuse shall not be placed at collection points earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the day before the regularly scheduled collection day, and empty refuse containers shall be removed from the collection points prior to 6:00 p.m. on the day of collection.” Please do not leave your trash containers by your curb outside of those hours. Thank you! .

The West Rockhill-Sellersville Joint Recreation Authority (JRA), which owns and operates Holiday House pool, is working to modernize the facility and to establish a strategy to ensure its long-term viability. Toward this end, the JRA has commissioned a consultant to conduct a Swimming Pool Feasibility Study which will recommend a strategy for long-term improvements. The JRA is asking our members and all those, in the Pennridge community, who recognize the value of a community pool, to provide their ideas, opinions, and their general input using the survey which can be reached via the link provided here. We appreciate and value your input and request that you complete the study as soon as possible. Thank you. .

The change in the Pennsylvania fireworks law has created confusion on the part of citizens who are under the mistaken belief that fireworks are allowed to be set off anywhere, anytime. In reality, there are essentially no places in the Borough of Sellersville where private citizens can set off fireworks as they cannot be set off within 150 ft of an occupied structure whether or not it is occupied. This provision essentially eliminates any location within the Borough for discharging fireworks. Other restrictions include:

They cannot be ignited or discharged on a public or private property without express permission of the property owner.
They cannot be discharged from or within a motor vehicle or building.
They cannot be discharged toward a motor vehicle or building.
They cannot be discharged within 150 feet of an occupied structure, whether or not a person is actually present.
They cannot be discharged while the person is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug.

For more information on the fireworks regulations, please see the PA State Police FAQ site

If residents hear or observe the improper setting off of fireworks within the borough they are encouraged to contact the Perkasie Police Department at (267) 517-0099.

Sellersville Borough and the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy would like to remind you of the importance of preventing stormwater pollution while you make the most of the fall season. Stormwater is formed when rainwater makes its way into storm drains or runs off our properties directly into streams. On its journey to the stream, stormwater can pick up harmful substances that pollute our watershed.
